Who we are
Undercroft is a small non-profit school started in 1964 by a group of
parents interested in the Montessori Method. Over the years guides
at Undercroft have developed extensions to the Montessori Materials.
Great Extensions grew from one such experience.
After observing the children using rubber stamps, one of the guides at
Undercroft sought rubber stamps that complemented the Montessori manipulatives.
None were found. A set of bead bar stamps was designed for use in
Undercroft classrooms. We then decided that other Montessori schools
might enjoy the stamps. We offered them for sale for the first time
in February 1994. The stamps proved so popular that more products
were designed and added to our product list and Great Extensions was born.
The entire Undercroft community has benefited from the business.
The primary children make sample works to be displayed at
conferences. Elementary children help by plotting our sales on a
world map indicating the cities and countries in which our stamps can be
found. Our parents and our community see our efforts to reach our
goal: to raise enough capitol to build a new building. The profits
from Great Extensions are earmarked for Undercroft's building fund.
As a small private school, one might think that our resources are
limited. What we have found is that by working together and
utilizing the skills of every member of our organization, we can succeed
in our endeavors.
